Why you should support Fair Funding for All Schools
This government made a promise to us and our children. It promised to ensure that schools in England would continue to receive the per-pupil funding needed to provide all our children with a high-quality education.
But this government has broken its promise and today our schools are suffering devastating cuts that are projected to reach £3bn a year by 2020.
We are already seeing the effects of the cuts. Across the country many schools are asking parents for money to fill the gaps in core budgets and this is just the beginning.
This is the future for our schools under current government spending plans:
- Parents contributing increasing sums to cover core running costs
- Class sizes of up to 40
- Cuts to teachers and support staff
- School days shortened to save money
- Cuts to subjects offered
- Loss of resources and out of school activities
- Cuts to SEN and counselling services
All these cuts will have a negative impact on our children’s education, their future and the future prosperity of our country at this time of unprecedented change.
High-quality education should not just be for those who can afford to pay vast school fees. All our children deserve equality of opportunity and a good start in life, and this comes with properly and fairly funded schools.
A bit about us:
Fair Funding for All Schools is an independent, parent-led campaign, working to stop the cuts to school funding in England through parent and people-power.
Founded by a group of mums from London, Wokingham and West Sussex, the campaign is building a network of local parent-led campaigns attached to individual school communities across England to:
- Fight the cuts to schools
- Ensure all political parties commit to increasing per-pupil investment in schools in the run up to the 2017 general election
- Bring parents of all backgrounds and beliefs together to campaign for the provision of high-quality publicly funded education, ensuring all our children have the opportunity to fulfil their potential and develop their ambitions through education and learning.
- Work with the teachers of our children to shape and create a world-leading education system that benefits all children and will ensure the future prosperity for our country.
Why we need your help today:
We want to create more parent-led groups
Fair Funding for All Schools currently has over 30 groups up and running across England and we want to help parents to create more groups to ensure all political parties give proper priority to substantial education investment in their manifesto pledges.
We want to make badges, posters, leaflets
These will help us to publicise the campaign and spread the word.
We want to send our team up and down the country
This is so we can help more parents set up groups and schools arrange public meetings, speakers, and to make their voices heard.
We want to lobby parliament and individual MPs and Ministers
This way we can ensure their commitment to education before we decide who should be our next government.
We need to create an integrated print, broadcast and social media strategy
This will help us gain national awareness and media coverage and build our support networks.
There are over 8 million families with dependant children in the UK, that’s a lot of voters and a very powerful voice. And that doesn’t even count all the Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles, friends and everyone else that understands the importance of education for children and the security of all our futures.
We need to make sure our political parties and their candidates know what we want if they want our votes!
Over the next six weeks we'll be taking our message to schools, parents meetings and communities across the country - cuts to school funding, to our children's futures, cannot continue. But we can't do this alone - we need your help now more than ever.
Please donate now, anything from £1 to £1,000 will help. If the government will not champion our children, it is down to us, together.
