Why you should support #BLMUK
BLMUK is a coalition of black activists from across the UK who believe deeply that Black Lives Matter.
On 5th August 2016 Black Lives Matter (BLMUK) activists and supporters took part in coordinated actions across England, blocking the M4 road to Heathrow Airport, Princess Parkway in Manchester, the main tram lines of Nottingham City Centre and the A45 into Birmingham Airport, to draw attention to racial injustice in the UK and beyond borders.
The protest drew significant attention from a mainstream media that has long failed to report adequately on the crisis that is institutional racism. Focusing on deaths in custody, state violence in the United Kingdom, migrant deaths off Europe’s coasts and systemic racism faced by black people in Britain every day.
The protestors were found guilty of obstruction of a highway, and all received fines. The verdict was disappointing but predictable. BLMUK remain undeterred in taking action on all issues of injustice faced by poor and black people, which continue to be unaddressed in this country.
Donate to Black Lives Matter UK today, so we can continue our work in the long history of radical black resistance globally.
BLMUK will continue an unfurling campaign of local organising and non-violent direct action as a means to constantly fight for a progressive society.
